Dear Parents, Students, Teachers, and Community Members:

Thank you for your interest in the Mission Trails Regional Occupation Program (MTROP) and for visiting our website.
MTROP’s mission is to prepare students for careers by providing relevant skills. We accomplish this by developing students’ hands-on technical skills and equipping them with essential soft skills like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.

Mission Trails ROP supports career technical education (CTE) in multiple ways. First, MTROP hosts more than 25 CTE classes at its facility. Second, MTROP supports CTE programming at high schools and middle schools in the Salinas Union High School District. In addition, MTROP is the lead agency for the Mission Trails Regional Occupational Program Joint Powers Agreement (JPA). The JPA is a robust collaboration mechanism and supports CTE programs across Monterey County. In the Salinas Union High School District (SUHSD), approximately 6000 students are enrolled in CTE courses. The SUHSD offers CTE courses in 13 Industry Sectors: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Arts, Media and Entertainment, Building and Construction Trades, Business and Finance, Education, Child Development and Family Services, Engineering and Architecture, Health Science and Medical Technology, Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation, Information and Communication Technologies, Manufacturing and Product Development, Marketing, Sales and Service, Public Services, and Transportation. Our courses meet A-G eligibility requirements for the University of California and are aligned with CTE content standards.

The SUHSD has six California Partnership Academies: the Engineering and Health Academies at Alisal High School, the International Agriculture Business Academy at Everett Alvarez High School, the Health Academy at North Salinas High School, The Green Construction and FAST Academies at Salinas High School. MTROP looks forward to continuing to provide excellent learning opportunities for all our students in the year ahead. We have incredible teachers who provide students with authentic hands-on learning activities that prepare them for their post-secondary journeys. Our teachers will build on remarkable achievements from the previous year, including over 500 hours of work-based learning activities facilitated, 6,682 industry and employability certificates earned by students, and numerous awards in FFA, SkillsUSA, and other competitions.

To learn more about MTROP CTE programs, I invite you to browse our website, visit the Career Center at your high school, and schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor.
On behalf of MTROP teachers and staff, thank you again for your interest in career technical education programs. I look forward to another great year focused on preparing our students for success.

Sincerely,
Rob Appel
Director of Mission Trails ROP
